Dental insurance sounds great until you realize how little it actually covers. Treatment can be denied by an insurance plan’s “in house” doctor who has never seen you. Confusing waiting periods and illogical restrictions are set by companies to maximize profits. Imagine your medical insurance asking you to wait 6 months before you could start chemotherapy and restricting you to one round of treatment every year. Would your health actually improve? By the time you’ve met all the criteria, you’re still responsible for a deductible and out-of-pocket expenses for most treatments only to be maxed out because the yearly limits haven’t changed in more than 50+ years. Most insurance companies set annual maximums at $1500 because that’s how much it would cost to extract all your teeth and replace them with dentures in the 1950’s. Not adjusted for inflation, that amount hardly covers any major work you may need.

We accept all major dental insurance plans, though in-network participation with each plan may vary. We do not accept HMO or Medicaid. This flexibility allows us to maintain our conservative treatment philosophy and commitment to using the highest-quality materials. Accepting low-reimbursement insurance plans means providers have to make up the difference in volume. We don’t believe in a dollar menu, fast-food approach to dentistry because you deserve better.

We are more than happy to answer any questions and submit pre-authorization paperwork ahead of time to estimate your coverage. Majority of dental insurances have out of network benefits for you to use. For patients with Delta Dental specifically, we require payment upfront as Delta Dental will reimburse you directly. We understand insurance coverage can be confusing, it’s confusing on purpose, but we will do our best to answer your questions.

Sincerely,

The Sunset Smiles team
